The Lawson's Legacy~ A Heart to Remember Golf Event funds Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) research, awareness and treatment at Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota.
Lawson's Legacy was created in memory of our son, Lawson Michael Rios, who died on April 30, 2003 at three months of age as a result of being born with a severe form Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. CHD is a general term used to describe more than 35 different heart defects that are present at birth.
In the months following Lawson's death, we were stunned to find out how little is known about CHD, despite the fact that CHD is the number one cause of birth defects and the number one cause of birth defect related deaths in infants under one year of age (March of Dimes, 2003). In an effort to raise awareness of CHD and fund research and treatment programs at Children's Hospital & Clinics of Minnesota, we started Lawson's Legacy in 2004. We have been stunned with the success of the event and are grateful to everyone who has participated/donated/volunteered and/or sponsored the event. There is much more work to be done, 1 in 125 kids are born with some form of CHD each year.
We are in need of your support more than ever this year. Please join us in raising funds at this year's 6th Annual Lawson's Legacy Golf Event on Monday, May 18, 2009 at Rush Creek Golf Club in Maple Grove!
